DFDS is laying off 125 employees in a recently acquired company

125 employees will soon have their last day at the Turkish company Ekol International Transport, which DFDS acquired in November 2024.
DFDS announced this in a statement.
The layoffs are part of a desire to reorganize the company, according to the publicly listed ferry company. This is a restructuring, and the Turkish company continues to play an important role for DFDS, emphasizes CEO Torben Carlsen.
- Our recently acquired Turkish transport company plays a key role in supporting Turkey’s growth as a manufacturing hub and European trade partner, says the director in the statement, adding:
- However, the company’s financial performance requires a comprehensive turnaround, which necessitates difficult decisions. Therefore, we are in the process of reorganizing the company and, unfortunately, must part ways with 125 valued and skilled office employees.
Selling trucks
As part of the reorganization, Ekol is now integrated into DFDS' logistics division, and it is in this context that the layoffs have been deemed necessary.
It had previously been reported that Ekol had around 3,700 employees when the company was acquired.
In addition to personnel, the logistics division is also looking into further downsizing the number of trailers and trucks. This process is already underway.
So far, the company has sold 278 trailers, and more hundreds of other units, including trucks, are expected to leave the portfolio by 2025.
All of this is aimed at optimizing efficiency and improving competitiveness in terms of price and customer service, DFDS stresses.
