150-year-old shipyard in Flensburg saved at the finish line

The controversial investor, Lars Windhorst, is history as the owner of the two shipyards in Flensburg and Rendsburg

Flensburg. The nightmare is over for the many hundreds of shipyard workers in Flensburg and Rendsburg, after the shipyards in the two cities have been saved.

This was announced at a press conference on Friday, according to Flensborg Avis.

The agreements are in place and signed, just before the insolvency deadline expired. Thus, the previous and much-contested investor, Lars Windhorst, is definitively past as the owner of the two shipyards. In Flensburg, the Rönner Group from Bremerhaven will continue to operate the 150-year-old Flensburg Shipyard (FSG), while Nobiskrug continues in Rendsburg. Thorsten Rönner, who represents the family behind the new ownership, is ready to quickly get the many employees back to work.

- We need to quickly address the dull silence in the hall and replace it with a lot of noise. As many people as possible need to quickly get started doing what they are here for - namely, to build ships, he said at the press conference.

Also, insolvency administrator Christoph Morgen is pleased with the new agreement, which secures the operation of the shipyards, and he reports that the employees are assured jobs and will also receive their salaries - something that was a serious shortage for the many shipyard workers under Lars Windhorst's ownership.

A half-finished Australian ship, lying in Flensburg, will now be completed so that employees can quickly get started again, said Christoph Morgen at the press conference.

Flensburg's lord mayor, Fabian Geyer, is pleased on behalf of Flensburg:

- It is not least psychologically important for Flensburg that the shipyard is operational again, he said. Leading up to the restructuring of FSG Nobiskrug, Lars Windhorst had been strongly criticized for, among other things, delayed salary payments and failure to make social contributions for the shipyard's 530 employees, writes Flensborg Avis.
