Dropped again: Frederikshavn loses Oslo route for the second time

First, it was Stena Line that dropped the Frederikshavn-Oslo route. Now, the Oslo boat's new, Swedish owner follows suit

The new owner of the Oslo route significantly reduces stopovers in Frederikshavn.

This is reported by the media Standby.dk.

Since 2020, DFDS has sailed via Frederikshavn on the trip from Copenhagen to Oslo and back, but with the new owner, Gotlandsbolaget, at the helm, changes are happening to the route.

Thus, Gotlandsbolaget is dropping the stopovers at Frederikshavn Port in the period from the end of March to the middle of December, effective from the season of 2025-26.

- After the current winter season of 2024-25, we will stop in both directions to call at Frederikshavn on the way between Copenhagen and Oslo; that is, we will not dock in Frederikshavn from March 30 to the middle of December next year, says Kevin Helsinghof, commercial director for the former DFDS route between Copenhagen and Oslo, which was taken over by the Swedish shipping company Gotlandsbolaget on November 1, to Standby.dk.

The adjustment of the route is due to most customers spending most of their time in Oslo and Copenhagen before heading home. By skipping Frederikshavn, guests can get more time in the two capitals, explains Kevin Thyge Helsinghof.

Gotlandsbolaget is maintaining the stop in North Jutland from December to the end of March because there are many ski guests taking the trip from Frederikshavn. These guests come both from Denmark and also drive from Germany and the Netherlands to ski in Norway.

Søfart is attempting to get a comment from Gotlandsbolaget.
