New ISO 80079:36/37 certification for High-Velocity Valves
Safety and flexibility for the future of Methanol-Fuelled vessels! As the maritime industry increasingly focuses on alternative fuels, our PV-ECO valves have received several important certifications, making them ideal for use with methanol, alcohol, ammonia and other. These new certifications ensure that the valves are a safe choice for vessels utilising dual fuel technology, providing shipbuilders with greater flexibility and confidence in adopting these new fuel types.
Key certifications and approvals
- IMO 1621: Currently, the only guideline available for alternative fuel in engines like methanol, ammonia, etc. PV-ECO valves are among the first valves to receive this approval.
- ISO 80079:36/37: ATEX certification confirming safe use in explosive atmospheres. Our valves are the only ones on the market to have obtained this certification. This certification elevates the safety of our valves, distinguishing them from other brands and reinforcing our commitment to vessel and crew safety as a top priority.
- Polar Code: Compliance with requirements for operation in Arctic environments ensures that the valves are reliable even in harsh conditions.
- OCIMF and ADN: Standards supporting broad application and ensuring compliance for the transportation of hazardous liquids on both sea and inland vessels.
Customer benefits
“With these certifications, PV-ECO valves can be used on a range of vessels operating on methanol, alcohol, or ammonia as fuel. Pres Vac also offers valves compatible with the extended pipe length required by alternative fuel vessels. Tested for a wide range of pressures from 5 kPa to 60 kPa, with various pipe diameters, they offer greater flexibility in design and operation,” Says Harshith Venkatramana, Research & Development Engineer at Pres-Vac.
Safety as a top priority
The ISO 80079-36 certification covers non-electrical equipment onboard and ensures that such equipment does not become an ignition source in potentially explosive environments. It provides essential guidelines for design, construction, and testing to prevent risks associated with flammable gases and vapours.
Compliance with ISO 80079-36 is crucial for vessels as part of improving onboard safety. Adhering to this standard ensures that the equipment used onboard is certified to meet rigorous safety standards, enhancing the ability of ship operators to protect the crew, cargo, and the overall structural integrity of the vessel.
Simple and safe installation
By investing in PV-ECO valves, customers benefit from a solution that complies with the latest regulations and standards for methanol valves—a key advantage in an industry where environmental regulations are continually tightening. The robust ATEX certification and compliance with IMO 1621 ensure that the valves can be installed without concerns about explosion, leakage, or non-compliance with new regulations. Pres Vacs High Velocity Valves continue to comply with ISO 15364:2021, ISO 16852:2016, and IMO MSC/ Circ 677 / IMO MSC 1324 ensuring our products consistently meet strict industry standards and regulations.
The future of sustainable shipbuilding
As more vessels transition to alternative fuel technology and sustainable fuels such as methanol and ammonia, PV-ECO valves are helping the maritime industry meet future environmental requirements while delivering safe and efficient solutions for the next generation of shipbuilding.
